4.6, “Night Vision”, deployment soon, and beyond!
Hello Citizens, and happy Friday! Today, I want to talk about 4.6 and its importance.
January has had a history of being a drought of Star Citizen content, with developers slowly getting back to their desks after the holiday stretch. However, this year is seemingly different: they have 4.6 in mid-stride for in the Public Test Universe (PTU), hitting Wave 1 testers earlier this week. And if all things go ahead with today’s latest patch test, they are anticipating sending it down to more waves, signifying a LIVE deployment as early as late next week! Also next week, Evocati testers are prepping to sink their teeth into a new playtest involving the first iteration of crafting!
The LAMP system is one feature being introduced, providing low light amplification across a number of ship canopy glass, with amplifier colors unique to each manufacturer. It seems the time of flying in darkness while mashing TAB to scan to see may be finally over! Other features to note include new mining and salvage missions, a new reward-oriented event focusing on Levski, and a long awaited RSI Aurora gold standard pass!
VR also made its debut earlier this month, showcasing support across a number of platforms such as Meta’s Quest series and Steam Frame. With this tech being introduced, Star Citizen can be seen in a new light that can be expected with the level of fidelity and scale its designed to impress onto players. It’s still a work in progress, with updates making their way in tandem with the regular patch cycles.
Speaking patch cycles, with CIG and 4.6 in the bullpen, there is anticipation among players about a potentially upcoming ship release to come attached, and it’s rumored to be the RSI “Hermes”. Speculated to be sharing the same chassis as the Apollo medical series, the “Hermes” is sketched out to be a cargo variant according to latest sneak peaks and data mines. We shall see!
Another introduction to the Pledge Store, and what seemingly has permanently made its way into expectations, are the release of monthly “patch bundles”: a package of themed items and paints to purchase for in-game use. This month brought the Shadow Gild of Nyx into the light, providing players a purchase option of $28 USD to outfit themselves in black and gold Palatino armor, a matching VOLT Fresnel LMG, and a Black and gold paint scheme for Mirai Guardian series owners. Very nice in the ways of concierge looks… Secure your gear here!
That’s all for now, Citizens, enjoy the release window for 4.6, and beyond ready to pierce the dark!
